Mirfield

Mirfield, is a civil parish and town in Kirklees (West Yorkshire), England. It was once part of the West Riding of Yorkshire and is located on the A644 between Brighouse & Dewsbury. It had 19,563 inhabitants at the 2011 census. Mirfield is part of the Heavy Woollen district.

A canal that connected the River Calder to other rivers was built through the town in the 18th century. It is part of Calder and Hebble Navigation. Many industries were created in Mirfield as a result of its construction, including textiles and boat yards. It is still used by recreational users. The high popularity of "duck-feeding" along the water's edge makes it a popular tourist attraction.

Mirfield is home to the Safe Anchor Trust. This charity was founded in 1995 to offer canal boat trips for people with special needs and vulnerable. Princess Anne purchased a boat for the Trust in 2012.

Shipley lies close to Saltaire, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Shipley is a vibrant town known for its excellent restaurants and bars. Aagrah, one of Yorkshire's most well-known Asian restaurants, is located in Shipley. Many restaurants offer a wide range of international cuisines, no matter what your preference.

The Shipley Glen, a wooded ridge that lies to the north of Shipley across the River Aire is the destination. (The word "glen" refers to the small valley below the ridge). The Shipley Glen Tramway, which was constructed in 1895 to transport visitors to the top of the ridge, has been a popular attraction. You can also enjoy a walk or cycle along the Leeds- Liverpool canal, and take in the Five Rise Locks of neighboring Bingley.
